Trailer: Producer Management

Hey everyone, Daniel Grimmett here from Dark Label Music. Welcome to the Producer Management Podcast. For the past decade, I've been a business advisor and sometimes co-manager to over 700 freelance music producers, ranging from small studios to Grammy-winning veterans.

And after being behind the scenes of just about every type of situation you can imagine, I've narrowed down the biggest struggle for producers building their careers right now. Most of you are stuck in the middle, trying to balance keeping the bills paid now with building the career you actually want long term. That's the tension.

Now money vs. future goals. That's my favorite problem to solve, and that's what this podcast will help you figure out.

As you probably noticed, we're in an era where there are more ways than ever to generate income as a producer. Client work, placements, royalties, sync, YouTube, education, digital products. And on the surface, this is a really great thing, there's lots of opportunity, but underneath it can feel very overwhelming and you can lose sight of the big picture.

It's very, very easy to chase the wrong opportunities in the wrong order with the wrong expectations. And you could waste years copy-pasting what others are doing before you finally realize that no producer's journey is exactly the same. You have to learn how to navigate your own.

At my company, we call this career design, and this podcast will help you do that. So here's what to expect. You'll get to hear recordings of real conversations between professional producers and their teams.

The deals, the strategies, and the unfiltered advice. Conversations you can't hear anywhere else. And I'll be jumping in with some commentary so that you can take what's relevant and apply it to your own situation.

You'll also hear from people like me who work behind the scenes with producers. Sync agencies, producer managers, assistants, A&Rs. People you rarely get to hear from, but you definitely should.

And finally, I'll also be using this podcast as my professional diary, sharing insights from the front lines of producer management and turning those lessons into actionable steps for you. And if you're already a fan of my YouTube channel and newsletter, thank you. But I think you'll find that this podcast is the most up-close-and-personal type of content that I'm able to deliver.

So I encourage you to subscribe to Producer Management wherever you listen to podcasts and visit producermanagement.com for additional resources. Thanks for listening and I'm excited to bring you into my unique little corner of the music business.
